2015-2018 Lifelines

Lifelines is a shared, always-on visualization of context information for couples.

How can sharing context data support couples in their daily communication? Lifelines provides a persistent, shared visualization of multiple streams of smartphone-derived context data, while preserving each partner’s privacy. Partners choose which streams to share, including closeness to home, battery level, movement, media activity, texts and calls.

We expect Lifelines to help us better understand couples' communication needs and how the use of always-on visualizations of context information can affect their everyday communication. Studying the use of Lifelines in the wild can help us find new design possibilities for developing communication technologies that support intimate relationships.
